FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions for High Resolution Stock Video Backplates

  • What are Background Plates?
Although you can use background plates for countless applications, our Background Plates are shot in high resolution to satisfy the growing needs of Virtual Production Studios' LED Walls, and also for Chroma Key Compositing (replace your Blue/Green screen with our backgrounds). Use our Plates in films, advertisements, commercials, broadcast, television, music videos, websites, live shows & presentations, LED banners, social media, and more!
  • Is Stock Plates' footage Royalty Free?
Yes, all of our Stock Footage is royalty free! Once purchased, you'll receive a PDF license granting you permission to use the footage as many times as you'd like...unlimited distribution & unlimited audience size.
  • Are there restrictions on how I can use the Footage?
Yes, but not many! You can’t re-sell them or share our Plates with someone else (but, of course you can use your purchased footage for your Employer or Client). It’s prohibited to use our plates for pornographic, defamatory, or unlawful activity. Read more about the restrictions, detailed on the License Agreement.
  • How soon will I receive my Plates?
Once purchased, you will immediately be provided with a PDF document which includes a filemail.com download link, and password. Click the link to download the files and save them for your use. The download link will not be active permanently, so please download the files at your earliest convenience. (You’ll have at least a month!)
  • How long does the download take?
The amount of time it takes to download depends on your internet speed and the size of the files purchased. In some cases, the download can take a couple hours to complete. Most of our download packs are somewhere between 20GB and 60GB in size.
  • What is the acquisition format?
Our Plates are available to be downloaded in ProRes422LT Log, providing you with the most quality and flexibility to color grade the footage based on the look and need of your project. We’ve chosen ProRes422LT as a great middle ground between quality and file size for “downloadability”. Your download pack will also include a more compressed, MP4 Rec709 version, matching the look of the preview file viewed on the product page.
  • What Frame Rate & Resolution do you shoot in?
We film our plates in 24fps (23.98), to accommodate the standard frame rate for motion pictures, and typically in 8k (or 6k) resolution! Please read the description on the product page of the Plate you are considering purchasing for exact details.
  • What if I can't find the Plates I need?
If you need a specific format, resolution, frame rate…or if you need backgrounds not yet available on our site…or if you need multiple angles shot a specific way… You can hire us to shoot it at an affordable price! Our Cinematographers are highly skilled, and travel worldwide. Contact us for a detailed quote!
  • What is the Refund Policy?
Once purchased, we cannot offer a refund unless there is a technical error with the product that we can confirm.
  • Can you ship the Footage to me on a hard drive?
Yes! If, for some reason, you need or prefer to have a hard drive with your purchased footage shipped to you, we are happy to accommodate that. Contact us for this request and provide your mailing address for a quote. You will be responsible for the cost of shipping, along with a fee for the hard drive and handling.
  • Can I download a sample of footage before purchasing?
By right-clicking on any of our plates on the product page, you can select "download video" to download a low resolution (1080P) version of the plate with our watermark. This is for test or sample layout use only. The purchased files will have much higher resolution and quality. If you need a higher resolution sample for testing, please Contact Us.
  • What is the Crop Factor for LED walls
The size of all LED Walls in virtual production studios differ, but many of them will be twice as wide as your standard 16:9 aspect ratio. In these scenarios, and to fill the length of the wall horizontally, you should envision cropping the vertical pixels by half, anywhere along the vertical plane that provides the desired image on the Wall.
